Emteq ST03 Non-contact Temperature Transmitter, a two-wire loop-powered infrared sensor providing a linear 4–20 mA output for non-contact surface temperature measurement. The ST03, supplied by Emteq Sensors, measures surface temperature from 0°C to 1200°C without physical contact with the target, transmitting the measured temperature as a standard 4–20 mA signal. This output is compatible with almost any indicator, controller, recorder or data logger, without the need for special interfacing or signal conditioning. As a two-wire loop-powered device, the ST03 offers a simple, robust solution for most non-contact temperature applications.

 

Non-contact Infrared Sensing
The ST03 detects infrared energy radiated from the target surface across an 8 to 14 µm spectral band, allowing temperature measurement without contact. It suits most materials, including food, paper, textiles, plastics, leather, tobacco, chemicals, rubber, coal and asphalt. It is not suitable for low-emissivity materials such as polished metals, where the reflective surface prevents reliable measurement.

 

Optics and Response
The sensor has a distance-to-spot ratio of 20:1, meaning the measured spot diameter is one-twentieth of the distance from sensor to target, allowing smaller targets to be measured from further away. Accuracy is ±1.5% or ±1.5°C, whichever is greater, with a fast response time of 240 ms to 90% of a step change.

 

Construction and Mounting
Housed in a compact stainless steel body measuring 19 mm in diameter by 113 mm in length, the ST03 carries an M18×1 thread on the sensing head for straightforward mounting. It is supplied with a 1.5 m cable as standard, with longer lengths available to order, and weighs approximately 180 g with the standard cable. The enclosure is rated IP65 for protection against dust and water ingress.
