Elettrosonda Z8
Compact conductive level relay with normal, high and adjustable sensitivities, plugging into a standard 8-pin octal base for DIN rail or surface mounting. The Elettrosonda Z8, produced by MAC3, controls the level of conductive liquids in wells, tanks and reservoirs (including those under pressure) and in rainwater collection systems. The operating principle is based on low-voltage (10 Vac) electrodes, or probes: when the liquid contacts the probes, the control unit detects the current flowing through it and switches the output relay, with a response time of just 100 ms. The Z8 can monitor a single level using two probes (MAX and COM), or control between a minimum and a maximum level using three probes (MIN, MAX and COM), giving a differential between the pump start and stop positions.

Three Sensitivity Versions
The Z8 is offered in three sensitivities to suit the conductivity of the liquid. The NS (Normal Sensitivity) version works with a total resistance of up to 5.6 kΩ between the probes, suits most water and wastewater applications and allows the longest probe cable runs, up to 1,000m. The AS (High Sensitivity) version, rated at approximately 70 kΩ, is intended for liquids of low conductivity such as rainwater. The SR (Adjustable Sensitivity) version is set on installation anywhere from 0 to 100 kΩ, for liquids whose conductivity is unknown. Probe cable length for the AS and SR versions is 70 to 80m.

No Moving Parts
Because the probes need no mechanical movement, the Z8 is ideal for narrow and deep wells and bores where a float switch cannot hang or swing freely. The probe cables have low losses over long distances, and the probes are insensitive to the humidity typical of wells and tanks. LOAD and POWER indicator lights on the front show the unit’s status at a glance.

Compact Plug-In Design
The Z8 measures just 79 x 35 x 88mm (2 DIN modules) and plugs into an octal 8-pin base for surface or DIN rail mounting, so it fits easily into crowded control panels and can be swapped out in the field without rewiring. The housing is Noryl (PPO), rated UL 94 V0, with IP20 protection for installation inside an enclosure. The output relay is rated 250Vac, 5(2)A, consumption is 5 VA maximum, and the unit carries CE marking.

The Elettrosonda Z8 is a single-voltage unit, available for 24 Vac, 48 Vac, 117 Vac or 230 Vac supply – refer to the code chart. It differs from the Elettrosonda Z11, which is dual-voltage and uses an 11-pin (undecal) base. The octal base is not included with the Z8 and is available separately (see 2nd Option). Single immersion probes and a triple probe holder for use with SS rods are also available for separate purchase.
